Keith Jones: The Visionary Behind Keystone

Keith Jones, the founder of the Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights, Virginia, is a man whose life story intertwines with the very machines he cherishes. Raised in the small town of Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia, Keith’s early years were steeped in hard work and a deep appreciation for machinery.

As the son of a sawmill operator, he began hauling lumber at a young age, learning the ropes of the trucking world alongside his four brothers. Their collective efforts at the family service station not only supported their education but also instilled in them a strong work ethic that would define their futures.

In 1986, Keith and his brother Kolen founded Abilene Motor Express, a trucking company that has become a part of Knight-Swift. Despite the demands of his expanding business, Keith’s passion for vintage machinery remained unwavering.

His journey into collecting began in 1987 when he purchased his first tractor — a 1950 John Deere M — from his late uncle’s estate. This acquisition sparked a fervor for restoration and preservation, leading Keith to amass a collection of over 350 antique farm tractors and vintage road trucks. This personal collection eventually found a permanent home in the Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum, which opened its doors in 2010.

Keith’s dedication to preserving agricultural and automotive history is evident in every corner of the museum. His commitment to sharing this heritage with the public reflects his belief in the value of hard work, family, and passion. As he continues to expand and enhance the museum, Keith Jones remains a steadfast guardian of the past, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the machines that shaped our history.
